Purpose
This course is intended for experienced qualified counsellors who are either accredited or eligible for accreditation, and who are either practising as a counselling supervisor without a formal qualification or who are about to embark on providing supervision. You will review your growth as a practitioner and learn about integrative frameworks for individual and group supervision, undertake a research project, submit a case study review and develop your approach in training group supervision.

Candidates therefore must have the CPCAB Level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling or the CPCAB Level 5 Diploma in Psychotherapeutic Counselling or the CPCAB Level 5 Diploma in Cognitive Behavioural Therapeutic Skills and Theory or their RPL equivalent – plus a recommended minimum 450 hours of supervised client work. Alternatively candidates who have one year’s post qualifying experience and a CPCAB level 5 qualification may apply. Essential to the course requirement Candidates must be receiving supervision for their practice in accordance with BACP (or other professional body) guidelines .
You will learn the essential skills necessary to supervise counselling practitioners who are working with clients at CPCAB service levels A and B (see Part 1 of the CPCAB model ). The supervisory skills learnt will include:
- The purpose, role and tasks of supervision
- Ethical and legal aspects of supervision
- Working within the professional framework for supervision
- The nature of the supervisory relationship
- Understanding basic group dynamics within supervision, to include transference and countertransference
- Difference & Diversity issues in supervision
- Models of supervision
- Creative approaches to supervision
- Personal development & Supervision
- This qualification is designed to lead to a role as a clinical counselling supervisor in a counselling agency or in independent practice. Supervision is an ongoing professional requirement for all pratising counsellors and those with a recognised qualification are more likely to find employment.

- 5 hour day for 18 days (9 weekends)
